Street art ascending the flight of steps

01 Oct

Since the dawn of inception, Street Art has become a medium of passing on the immense creativity onto the canvas of street elements thereby attracting numerous visitors on a daily basis.

Street art is a visual art experience that plants a seed of life and liveliness into a space that's often used for commuting. It started off as an expression through graffiti on walls and streets and eventually extended to use of varied materials and forms combined with unique elements.

Including a series of steps under the tag of street art, artists have taken the concept to a next level altogether. The 16th Ave Mosaic Steps in San Francisco are a unique example of street art stamped on the stairs, leaving back an impression on the users.

The steps that were originally crafted as a part of a neighbourhood project have now become a popular tourist destination. Initially led by artists, Aileen Barr and Colette Crutcher, over 300 neighbours joined the league to create a beautiful mosaic tile masterpiece on each of 163 individual steps. They were inspired from EscaduaraSelaron steps at Brazil.

For one of the most colourful experience of your lifetime, you can find the steps at the corner of 16th Avenue and Moraga Street which is a harmonious combination of custom designed mosaic tiles, just as peculiar as any member of the neighbourhood. Funded by San Francisco Park Trust, it makes its way for people willing to witness an iconic stair that greets them with diverse colours and patterns and carves a place for itself.
